WORKFORCE Dental Staffing

Part-time and flexible

Three days is not a compromise. It is a decision.

Dentistry is unusually well suited to working less than a full week, and unusually bad at admitting it. Draw the week you actually want and we will find the shifts that fit it.

Draw it

Most people have never actually been asked what week they want. Have a go before you read anything else on this page.

Days

Around a day or two a week

That is a week you can set on your profile. You are not committing to it and you can change it whenever your life does.

Setting availability tells practices when you can work. It does not mean shifts exist in every session you pick, and what is available depends on your area, your role, and the time of year.

Six reasons people work part-time, and none of them need defending

Around children, and around school hours

The most common reason by a distance. Two or three sessions a week that finish before pickup, and the freedom to not work in August without asking anybody.

Alongside a permanent job

One day on your day off, or the occasional Saturday. Plenty of people do this for years without it ever being a big decision.

While studying, or retraining

Sessions that fit around a timetable that changes every term, without having to renegotiate a contract each time it does.

Winding down, rather than stopping

People with thirty years of experience who want two days rather than five, and who are worth an enormous amount to a practice on either of them.

Coming back after time away

A gentler way to return than a full week from a standing start, and a way to find out what your hands and your stamina are doing before committing.

Because you simply want your week back

Which is a complete reason and does not require any of the above. Nobody here will ask you to justify wanting three days.

The honest part

What you are trading, said plainly

If you are reading this while thinking about dropping hours somewhere else, read this section twice. The decision about your current job is yours to make, and the trade has real costs alongside the freedom.

01

Fewer sessions is less money

Obviously, and it is still worth saying out loud, because the maths of dropping from five days to three is easy to be vague about until it lands.

02

You are not accruing anything anywhere

A series of day rates does not build tenure, and it does not build the things a long permanent post at one practice builds. Some people are trading that deliberately. It is worth knowing you are.

03

Availability is not the same as work

Setting a week tells practices when you can be booked. What is actually there depends on your area, your role, and the season, and anybody telling you otherwise is guessing on your behalf.

04

You hold your own schedule

Nobody is planning your year for you. That is most of the appeal and it is also a job in itself, particularly if you are stitching a week together from more than one practice.

What tends to make a narrow week work

None of this is a guarantee. It is what we notice about the people who end up with the week they wanted.

Being consistent beats being available
A practice that needs Wednesdays covered will book the person who is reliably there on Wednesdays over somebody who is theoretically free most days. A narrow, dependable pattern is often worth more than a wide vague one.
Say which software you know
It is the single most useful line on a profile, because it is the difference between being productive at nine and asking where the recall list lives.
Widen the radius before you widen the week
If you want to keep your days narrow, being willing to drive a bit further usually does more than adding a session you did not really want.
Longer bookings are arranged, not claimed
If you would take a standing weekly arrangement or a block of leave cover, say so. Those get matched deliberately rather than appearing as single shifts.

A part-time week here is temp work

Which means the same arrangement as any other shift: the rate is set by category and city and shown before you claim, we are your employer on the placement, and source deductions and insurance sit with us. Working two sessions a week does not change any of that.

Put the week you drew on a profile

Add your registration, the roles you cover, your sessions, and how far you will travel. You can change any of it whenever your life does.
