For dental schools and teaching clinics
A cancelled session costs a cohort, not an appointment
When a clinical instructor is out, a private practice loses a day of production and a teaching clinic loses a session that a room full of students needed for their clinical requirements. Those are not the same problem, and they should not be staffed the same way.
Requirements do not reschedule. A session lost in March is a session students have to make up before they graduate, which is why teaching clinics plan coverage rather than react to it.
Who we staff in a teaching clinic
A teaching clinic runs on roles that do not exist in private practice, and on some that do but work differently once students are holding the handpiece.
- Clinical instructors
- Practising dentists and registered hygienists who cover supervision sessions, whether that is a standing day each week or filling a gap in the rotation.
- Chairside assistants
- Assistants who can support student operators, which is a different job from assisting an experienced clinician and needs a different temperament.
- Sterilization and reprocessing
- A student clinic turns over instruments at a volume a private practice never sees. Reprocessing is where a short-staffed day is felt first.
- Clinic coordinators and front office
- Patient scheduling for a teaching clinic has to satisfy student requirements as well as patient need, which makes the desk harder, not easier.
- Simulation lab support
- Preclinical sessions run to their own schedule and often peak when the main clinic is quiet.
Coverage on your calendar
The academic year, not the business year
Teaching clinic demand is cyclical and, unusually, predictable. That means coverage can be booked ahead for the periods you already know will be tight, rather than sourced in a hurry.
Fall term
PeakSep to Dec
Full clinic sessions, new cohort still finding its feet.
Exam and break
LowDec to Jan
Clinic sessions pause. Reprocessing and maintenance continue.
Winter term
PeakJan to Apr
Heaviest requirement period as students chase clinical hours.
Summer
VariableMay to Aug
Summer sessions, outreach placements, and faculty vacation cover.
Supervision and appointment stay yours
Accreditation sets how your clinic must be supervised, and the requirements differ by program and by the type of clinic being run. We do not interpret those requirements for you and we do not appoint faculty. Your academic HR process does that.
What we do is find the professionals, and put their registration details, insurance, and work history in front of your process so nobody is chasing paperwork in the week a term starts.
How verification worksIt runs both directions
Your graduates are the professionals our network is built on. Many join WORKFORCE straight out of a program and temp while they work out what kind of practice suits them, which is also how a good number of them find permanent roles.
If your program wants somewhere to point students who are finishing, we are glad to be that, and it costs your school nothing to send them our way.
What we offer professionalsPlan next term now
Send us your clinic schedule and the sessions you already know are thin, and we will tell you what coverage looks like before the term starts rather than during it.
